Employers around Nottingham have submitted a variety of business challenges to the innovative #Grads4Nottm work placement initiative 2015.

Nottingham Trent University (NTU) are leading on the scheme, which is held in partnership with Boots and Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Councils.

Lauched last year, #Grads4Nottm is designed to help retain graduate talent in Nottingham. It followed research conducted in 2014 by Nottingham Business School, part of NTU, which revealed that the city has a lower than average proportion of economically active residents with a degree.

It differs from other work experience schemes as the identity of the employer is anonymous at the application stage. Students apply for a challenge which appeals to them, rather than base their choice on the brand or size of the company. The students spend three days solving a real-life business challenge, presenting their findings at the end of the week. They also benefit from skills sessions, hosted by Boots.

Hanna Luetkemeier, Business Services Consultant at Nottingham Trent University, said: "Universities, councils and employers can help raise the profile of the city's growing businesses among students. #Grads4Nottm is aimed at showing students that small and medium businesses are as desirable an option for graduate employment as larger companies."

Feedback from the students who took part last year was very positive. Students not only found the week enjoyable, but it succeeded in raising awareness of opportunities to work with local small and medium businesses.

#Grads4Nottm will take place from Monday 14 – Friday 18 December 2015.
