Fashion Communication and Promotion study trip to Berlin Fashion Week

Our BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Promotion students have recently visited Germany's capital during Berlin Fashion Week.

Our BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Promotion students have recently visited Germany's capital during Berlin Fashion Week. The five-day trip was open to Year Two students, helping them to conduct research for their Promotion and Context module.

The trip itinerary included visits to fashion trade shows including Premium, Seek, Bright, and the Ethical Fashion Show. These were arranged through the course’s industry contacts, and allowed the students to experience the events from a professional perspective.

Staying in the Prenzlauer Berg area of the city, the students were encouraged to visit the Mauer Park Flea Market, the Anton Corbijn Retrospective at exhibition space C/O Berlin, and the Helmut Newton Foundation. The itinerary also suggested areas of the city to explore for their research, including Mitte, Charlottenburg, Schonneburg, and Kreuzberg. They also had recommendations to visit Berlin’s many historic sites, including the Berlin Wall, the Reichstag, Checkpoint Charlie, and the Brandenburg Gate.

Lecturer and trip leader Sarah Lewington told us: "While in Berlin the students visited industry trade shows, which allowed them to experience first-hand the trends for the next year. They didn’t go as students, but as professionals, and were set a project which mirrors what they would have to do in industry. They also visited a number of cultural venues in order to assist them with generating creative concepts and executions which they produce throughout the course."
