NTU Students win 4th place at NAC 2016

Four NTU students win fourth place at National Apprenticeship Challenge 2016.

Two teams from Nottingham Trent University undertook the National Apprenticeship Challenge on 12 – 13 March 2016 at Aston University in Birmingham, achieving great results. Every year 80 to 100 of the brightest and most ambitious students nationwide compete in teams as they complete practical business tasks. The grand prizes consist of £1000 cash, business mentorship and fast track to paid internship opportunities.

During the weekend students went through different challenges with reality-based business tasks, networking opportunities and surprises. This was an opportunity for them to experience the key stages of running a business and put into practice the theory they learned during their courses.

The undergraduate team, NTU Entrepreneurs, consisting of Jansen Tse, Andrew Marshall, Thomas Andrews and Abdu Hilal, all students from BA (Hons) Business Management and Entrepreneurship course, came fourth place out of 21 teams.

As part of the first task the students ran a virtual airline company within a market-based online simulation software. For this, the teams had to develop and implement business strategies, create marketing plans and decide the routes, amenities and schedules for their airplanes.

Thomas Andrew talked about his experience during the weekend and what skills he learnt "we had to pitch our idea to a panel of judges which was a good experience and involved a lot of preparation. I really enjoyed the business simulation game as it made you come with a strategy in order to be successful in the challenge".

The second task required students to create an innovative business concept for The Next Social Media Platform and pitch it in front of experienced judges and serial entrepreneurs.

Jansen Tse commented: "We are glad to have grabbed such an amazing opportunity like this and would strive to continue developing, gaining knowledge and experiences for the future".
