Sport Relief 2016

It’s a biannual campaign that brings together the nation (and their trainers) to all do their bit for charity, and with NTU’s Chancellor Kevin Cahill also being known as the CEO of Comic Relief, it seemed fitting that NTU Sport got involved!

It’s a biannual campaign that brings together the nation (and their trainers) to all do their bit for charity, and with NTU’s Chancellor Kevin Cahill also being known as the CEO of Comic Relief, it seemed fitting that NTU Sport got involved in Sport Relief!

Throughout the week commencing 14 March 2016, NTU Sport hosted numerous events to both celebrate and raise funds for the charity event.

Wednesday 16 March kicked off with a UV volleyball tournament that saw NTU staff members came out in force to try their hand at volleyball with a twist. Employees were encouraged to don their glow sticks and face paint and battle it out on the court.

The competition was fierce with ‘The Dryden Destroyers’ from Central Marketing pulling out all the stops to claim the title.

The main event of the week, however, came on Friday 18 March when NTU began the gruelling task of a tri-campus mile competition. With staff and students taking part at each campus, the race was on to see who could raise the most money.

With Varsity Season tickets up for grabs, many students flocked in to try and complete the mile in the fastest time on either a rowing machine or Wattbike. Meanwhile down in city sports hall, over 20 girls took part in a Sport Relief Zumbathon.

The week was a huge success with NTU raising over £100 for Sport Relief. NTU Sport is now looking forward to its next charity event – runNTU on April 17 2016.

The tri-campus mile winners

Will Parkin – 1.58 Bike (Clifton campus)
Maria Papageorgiou – 2.31 Bike (Clifton campus)
Arun Adisesh – 5.50 Rower (City site)
