Green fingered alumni showcase urban garden at RHS

Hosta Consulting, founded by two NTU alumni, is very excited to have been chosen to exhibit their garden at this years' Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Flower Show.

Hosta Consulting, founded by Nottingham Trent University alumni Claire Russell (BA Hons Business Management and Marketing 2015) and Helen Taylor (FdSc Horticulture 2011 / BSc Hons Environment Design and Management 2012), are very excited to have been chosen to exhibit their garden at this years' Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Flower Show at Tatton Park. The design, submitted earlier this year, will be seen by up to 80,000 visitors at this prestigious event in July.

The design, entitled 'A Drop of Urban Green', envisages a small unused space within a city transformed into an urban pocket park. The garden occupies an imagined space between two buildings in Nottingham, with the aim to provide an area to relax and increase biodiversity within the hustle and bustle of the city.

The show garden enables Hosta to demonstrate how a garden can work as a small public space within an urban context. A range of reclaimed materials have been used to construct the pocket park in order to limit the garden's environmental impact. Visitors can expect to see artwork and poetry running throughout the garden to celebrate Nottingham as UNESCO World City of Literature.

After Tatton Park, the garden will be relocated to an area of Nottingham where it can be enjoyed by residents of local housing group Nottingham City Homes, who have supported the garden's inclusion at Tatton Park.

Helen Taylor, Director of Hosta Consulting, said: "We are excited to promote the importance of green infrastructure in cities and share the story of why it is vital for nature, people and communities."

Nick Murphy, Chief Executive at Nottingham City Homes, said: "I'm delighted that this locally designed garden will be coming back to Nottingham. I wish Hosta every success at Tatton Park Flower Show and look forward to seeing their garden enriching the lives of our residents."

The RHS Tatton Park Flower Show runs from 20 to 24 July 2016. To buy tickets, visit the RHS website.
