NTU Students in Classrooms offer students a number of exciting opportunities to work with young people in local schools and colleges.

The paid schemes offer students the chance to do something different and make a difference to local young people. You can help pupils learn, understand, develop and investigate their future. You can be a positive role model for local pupils, help to raise aspirations and raise awareness about post-16 options, including higher education. The schemes offer you the opportunity to gain work valuable experience, enhance your CV, develop your employability skills and enrich your University experience.

We offer a choice of schemes:

Students in Classrooms MentorsMentors work on a one-to-one basis with secondary and post-16 pupils providing advice and guidance on a range of topics from routes to University, revision and exam techniques to personal skills development.

Students in Classrooms AssociatesAssociates provide practical support in primary or secondary school classrooms to help improve attainment. Activities can include listening to readers, group work, preparing lesson materials and delivering aspiration raising projects.

Student Ambassador SchemeAmbassadors support an array of activities, across all three NTU campuses and in local schools, primarily working with pupils from Years 5 to 13, to raise awareness of University and the opportunities it can offer.

"The best thing about the scheme is getting to know my mentees, week by week and seeing how I have made an impact on them. My mentee did not speak once during the ice breaker, and was very quiet during our first 3 sessions. But by the end of the 10 weeks, it was difficult to finish an activity in the hour as Heather would not stop talking! Before my eyes, I saw her grow in confidence and this will stay with me forever."
