Hockey Scholars are heading to the Junior World Cup

Three of our Sport Scholars have been named in a squad of 18 to compete at the 2016 Junior Hockey World Cup in India.

James Albery, Robbie Gleeson and Chris Proctor will be representing Nottingham Trent, with first year student, Elliot Hibell also named as a non-travelling reserve.

The competition will take place in Lucknow from the 8-18 December, when the top 16 under-21 sides in the world will come together to fight for the coveted title of Junior World Champions.

Gleeson and Proctor were part of the England squad in the recent Sultan of Johor Cup, where the team were disappointed to come 4th overall. Albery missed the competition through injury, so he will be hoping to have a positive impact on the side through his return.

England will be in Pool D, where they will come up against South Africa, India and Canada before hopefully progressing to the quarter finals.

It is not just our students who will be representing NTU at a Junior World Cup, as our Head of Hockey, Colin Clarke, is currently in Santiago Chile with the Women’s under-21s. Clarke is the Assistant Coach, and the competition is due to start this Thursday 24 November.
