On Sunday 6 November 2016, the NTU Chamber Choir returned to the prestigious North Wales International Choral Festival and beat nine other choirs to claim first place in the Mixed choirs category. The Chamber Choir successfully improved on their second place position from last year's competition.

The Chamber Choir performed three contrasting and exciting pieces in front of a panel of experienced choral adjudicators. The pieces they performed were, My Soul There is a Country, Words and The Battle of Jericho.

It was an especially impressive success for the choir, which is made up of NTU students, staff and alumni, as they had only three weeks to rehearse their pieces prior to the competition.

Director of Music, Matthew Hopkins, said "I am thrilled with the achievement – the choir gave a fantastic performance and the hard work over the past few weeks really paid off."

The NTU Chamber Choir will be performing their winning pieces at a free Lunchtime Concert on Wednesday 16 November 2016. The concert will take place at the Old Chemistry Theatre at 1 pm and will also feature solo performances by students within the choir.

For more information about the Lunchtime Concert, please email the NTU Music team.
