Sports Scholar Charlotte Steggles makes Notts County 1st team debut

On Sunday 6 November 2016, current student and sports scholar Charlotte Steggles made her 1st team debut for Notts County Ladies FC vs Chelsea Ladies FC, in the FA Women's Super League 1 (WSL1).

After a season plagued with injury, the sports science team at NTU, Strength and Conditioning Coach Laura Wake, and Physio Fern Whelan, have worked extremely hard with Steggles to get her fit. NTU Women's Football Head Coach, Ross Thorpe, has also supported her through it all working closely with her on the pitch.

At just 18 years old, Steggles was bought on as a substitute to replace Senior England International, Jess Clarke, in the 30th Minute. Last season Charlotte was named in the squad for the FA Women's Super League (WSL) Continental Tyres Cup final vs Arsenal Ladies, but was unfortunate not to make an appearance. However, a year has passed and her hard work and was rewarded.

Understandably, Steggles was very excited about making her debut: "Making my debut for the 1st team was a great experience. It is something I've worked towards for a long time, and to make my debut against a club like Chelsea was an amazing experience!"

Steggles was recruited after a successful season playing in the WSL Development League for Notts County Ladies, and since starting university, her impact on the BUCS Football programme has been significant. As a result of this, Head Coach Rick Passmoor, handed her a first taste of WSL1 action.

Speaking of Steggles' debut, Passmoor commented: "Charlotte has seen recent WSL 1 action with County Ladies through her consistent performances with the development team and a great attitude."
