Nottingham Rugby travelled to Bedford Blues on Saturday 5 November, and a thrilling double comeback secured a bonus-point win for the green and whites.

Nottingham Trent University sports scholars David Williams and Jack Spittle made their Championship debuts at right wing and full-back respectively. Also in the team were fellow scholars Will Sutton and Josh Poullet, who started the game on the bench.

A poor start saw Bedford storm to a 22-0 lead, but a rejuvenated Nottingham side clawed back the scoreline to within 12 points at half time, courtesy of two unconverted tries.

Just after half time, David Williams scored his first try for the club to get Nottingham back to within five points, and a fourth try saw Nottingham take the lead and secure their bonus point. This was followed by another debut try, this time for Jack Spittle, taking the lead to seven points after 61 minutes.

Bedford were not ready to lie down, and a comeback of their own was on as they scored two tries to regain the lead with only a few minutes to go. The game looked to be ending in disappointment for Nottingham, but a late try at the death drew the scores level with the conversion to come. Fly half Daryl Veenendaal stepped up and secured the win, 36-34.

Nottingham's next fixture is on Friday 18 November against Ealing Trailfinders. Kick-off is at 7.45pm at Lady Bay.
