Rugby Union Men's 1 are hoping for promotion

At NTU Sport we are so excited about the year to come and what a year we have to look forward to!

We currently sit thirteenth in the BUCS table, and there are some great things to be excited about at NTU Sport, with many teams starting 2017 at the top of their respective leagues:

Basketball Women's 1 – Midlands 1A
Basketball Men's 2 – Midlands 4A
Football Men's 1 – Midlands 1A
Football Men's 2 – Midlands 2A
Football Women's 2 – Midlands 3A
Hockey Men's 2 – Midlands 2A
Netball 4 – Midlands 5B
Rugby Union Men's 1 – North A
Rugby Union Men's 4 – Midlands 4A
Rugby Union Men's 6 – Midlands 5A
Rugby Union Women's 1 – Midlands 2A
Squash Men's 1 – Midlands 1A
Tennis Women's 1 – Midlands 2A
Ultimate Frisbee Men's 1 – Midlands 2B

Of these, the Men’s Rugby Union first team are interesting. In the last few games of the year they are on course to finish on top of North A, and qualify to the playoffs for the BUCS Super Rugby League – the premier division for the very best university Rugby teams. This league requires teams to host some of their matches at a stadium, and the games are streamed on various media channels. Highlights are shown post-match, with aspects such as “tries of the week” regularly featured by England Rugby and others.

Women’s Basketball currently sit top of Midlands 1A, after being promoted into the league last year. Therefore it is a big run in for them, as they look for two promotions in two consecutive years. Furthermore, Men’s Football first and second team look in great form, and are both in a strong position ahead of the crunch part of the season.

Individual events are also large on horizon, with the BUCS Nationals being held in Sheffield in February. This will feature Badminton, Fencing, Swimming, Athletics, Karate, Trampolining, and Climbing. You can also expect Snow Sports, Rowing, Canoe Slalom, Archery, and many, many more.

If that wasn't enough, we are also extremely excited about this year's Varsity series with our rivals Nottingham University. It is a massive event every year, and more information about the series will be released soon.

Head to our NTU Sport website for more information about our sports clubs, and follow us on Twitter for up to date news, fixtures and results.
