Current NTU Student, and Hockey scholar, James Albery, has been selected to join the Great Britain full-time centralised programme, which is based at Bisham Abbey.

Marking the beginning of a new cycle for men’s hockey, the GB head coach, Bobby Crutchley, has named nine new faces to join his squad that will prepare for Tokyo 2020.

Albery, who plays for the NTU men’s first team and Beeston Hockey Club, was understandably elated with his selection: “I am very proud to be named in the squad for the next cycle, and I am very excited for the challenges ahead.”

He will be joining three NTU alumni who are already part of the full-time squad; David Ames, Adam Dixon and Ollie Willars.

The Head of Hockey at NTU, Colin Clarke, was equally delighted after seeing the hard-work Albery has put in to earn his selection.

Clarke commented: "James is an extremely talented athlete and deserves the recognition as he has worked hard at developing his game. NTU are delighted that our hockey programme has been able to help James realise his ambition and support him towards success on the hockey pitch, whilst also providing academic support so he can complete his degree"

Albery will join a youthful squad, with an average age of just 25, and he will be hoping to impress when England play in the Hockey World League in London in later this year.

Head coach Bobby Crutchley said, “We’re very excited about this new group, there’s been significant change and we’re looking forward to really getting going and developing the players."

Congratulations James!
