Year Two Fashion Management students Charis Walker and Isabelle Rudd are getting ready to move the Netherlands, where they will spend six months living and studying in Amsterdam. They will enrol on Amsterdam’s Fashion Institute's BA (Hons) Fashion and Textile Technologies, completing a module in Fashion and Management.

This module will help Charis and Isabelle develop a fabric portfolio, a quality manual, a production guide and a collection and buying plan. They shall study a range of subjects including international business, marketing, retail, Human Resource Management, management skills and business economics, which will no doubt prepare them for their final year at NTU.

We caught up with the students to chat to them about this exciting opportunity. Charis told us: “Amsterdam was my first choice because Fashion and Management stood out as a fun and up-to-date module, covering the latest skills and developments within the fashion industry. It also helps that it’s a beautiful city and has an exciting lifestyle, and I can’t wait to be cycling my way around the city soon!

“The fashion industry is very competitive; you need to make the most out of any opportunity that will make you stand out from the crowd. I believe studying at a main fashion institute abroad gives me this benefit as it proves that I am committed, passionate and not afraid of challenges and new situations.”

We asked Isabelle what she’s most excited about, she told us: “I’m mostly looking forward to studying global trends, and it will be interesting to look in on a different culture and see how the trends vary. I'm hoping to gain an understanding of a different culture to expand my understanding of the market on an international scale, and maybe learn a little Dutch!”

Senior lecturer, Felicity Walker commented: "Our Fashion Management course gives the students a real insight into the global fashion industry and we’re fortunate that we are able to enhance this through these international exchanges, global work placements and optional study trips to Paris, New York & Florence. Charis and Isabelle will be working on some exciting projects which will showcase and amplify their fashion awareness, managerial qualities and creativeness. I’m sure they are also excited about living in Amsterdam and exploring what the city has to offer them both socially and culturally."
