Malcolm gets Scotland call for Women's Six Nations

Sport Scholar, Rachel Malcolm, has been selected in the Scotland squad for the Women's Six Nations Championship

NTU Sport Scholar, Rachel Malcolm, has been selected as part of the Scotland Women’s Rugby squad for the upcoming Six Nations Championship.

Malcolm is actually a Hockey Scholar at NTU, as she regularly plays a crucial role in the first team BUCS fixtures. However, her scholarship allows her to train for both Rugby and Hockey, as the talented athlete focuses on Rugby Union outside of University.

The PhD student plays for Lichfield Ladies in the Women’s Premiership, who are currently sitting in second place behind Bristol Ladies. However, a close win against Bristol a few weeks ago, where Malcolm was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ means that it’s tight at the top.

Malcolm made her Scotland debut in the Rugby World Cup qualifiers against Spain in November, and after some impressive performances for Lichfield, she has maintained her place in the Scotland squad for the Six Nations next month.

Scotland will open their campaign against Ireland Women on Friday 3 February, which will be the first of five games. They will then face France (11 February), Wales (24 February), England (11 March) and Italy (17 March).

Malcolm is currently training with the team in London as part of their preparations for the tournament, which will include a match against English Premiership side, Aylesford Bulls.

All of the games in the tournament will be broadcast live, either on TV or online, to help raise the profile of the Championship. Highlights will also be available on the BBC.

We would like to wish Rachel the best of luck in the competition!
