NTU featured in Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) video as a leading university for the UK cons

The School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment at NTU was recently invited to feature in the Chartered Institute of Building’s (CIOB) Masterminds of Construction promotional video. Produced by ITN, the video set out to highlight NTU’s links with the construction industry and how a mixture of theory and practical learning, along with exposure to industry, can help create the next generation of construction professionals.

The feature includes snippets from a live construction project with Wilmott Dixon, in which students were given first-hand experience of pitching a tender to a leading member of industry and a snapshot of the extensive industry-standard facilities and skilled technicians available to our students

Intrinsic to NTU’s construction courses is the option for students to go on a year sandwich placement. Later in the video, we hear from Nick Charalambous, who is currently on a multi-million pound project whilst on placement at leading construction organisation VolkerFitzpatrick. Organisations such as VolkerFitzpatrick attend the University’s annual Property, Design and Construction Recruitment Fair to recruit placement students and graduates. In the feature, we hear from a number of students who are benefiting from the opportunities that this bespoke, industry-focused event provides.

Pete Dawber, Dean of the School, commented: "We were delighted to have been approached by the CIOB to contribute to their promotional video with ITN. Nottingham Trent University is recognised globally for producing talented graduates who go on to enjoy highly successful careers, and this project allowed us to demonstrate how we work with industry and professional bodies to give our students the knowledge, experience and insight into the construction industry.

“Whether it be a live project, a year-long placement or gaining hands-on experience in our extensive workshops, we make sure our students are ready for employment when they leave us and enter the real world."
