NTU Library is celebrating LGBT history month

NTU Library is celebrating LGBT history month with display and info stands.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Trans (LGBT+) history month takes place every February to celebrate the lives and achievements of the LGBT+ community. NTU Library is getting involved by having display and info stands in all the campus libraries.

The first ever LGBT History Month UK was launched in 2005, following the 2003 repeal of Section 28 of the Local Government Act 1988, which prohibited local authorities from ‘promoting’ homosexuality and labelling LGBT+ family relationships as ‘pretend’. Section 28 caused much harm to the LGBT+ community and created a culture of fear in schools and local authorities, leading to LGBT+ issues becoming taboo and invisible to many. LGBT History Month was launched as a way to reverse this, to put a spotlight on LGBT+ matters and to promote LGBT+ equality.
