Since 1st April 2016 Nottingham Trent University has been providing support to small and medium businesses in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire through their Enabling Innovation programme. During the first year we’ve been helping lots of businesses to realise their innovative ideas. Over the next two years the programme aims to help over 600 businesses to boost their innovation, become more competitive, and to grow and create high-skilled jobs.

Whilst the concept of innovation can sound off-putting, with its connotations of science and technology, simply put this is about a business wanting to do something that’s new, whether that be the development of a new product or service, or trying to get their products into a different marketplace.

Nottingham Trent University is offering free innovation support to businesses in a number of ways which can include;

* Providing technical support for businesses in areas such as food and drink, materials engineering, computing and data, and design innovation;
* Expert-led workshops delivered by Nottingham Business School on how business leaders can grow their businesses through innovative leadership and management and how they can introduce innovation into their workplace;
* Support for early stage businesses through the Hive, a purpose built centre for entrepreneurs and enterprise;
* Legal advice for innovative businesses, in areas such as Intellectual Property; and
* Running a comprehensive programme of networking and business development workshops and events.

The University is uniquely placed to assist businesses to find graduate talent to help them implement their innovative ideas. Our Finders/Keepers programme helps companies to attract, recruit, develop and retain graduates within their business. The University can also then contribute 20% of the salary costs of employing a graduate for a year, which will directly support businesses to introduce innovative products, services or processes.

Enabling Innovation is delivered in collaboration with Nottingham Trent University, The University of Derby and the University of Nottingham. The programme is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and will run until 31 March 2019.
