Our BA (Hons) Photography students have recently spent an exciting three days exploring Germany’s capital, Berlin. The optional study trip was open to all students; Year Two student Leah Wareham tells us all about it.

"Discovering Berlin with some of my closest friends on the course has been an amazing experience. From the four hour coach journey at 4am, sitting next to a friend who had never been on a plane before, to getting lost in a city that none of us knew, are all bonding memories I will never forget. During the trip I spent a lot more time with people I hadn’t previously had the opportunity to get to know. I even spent time with students from other years, which was really nice and an unexpected element of the trip which I am very glad occurred.

"I would highly recommend going on a study trip whilst at university. It is a great way to spend time with tutors and course mates, making memories whilst exploring a new country or city. One of the main things that surprised me about the trip was how free we were to do our own thing. Going on study trips with my college in the past, everything had to be done in a huge group, however at university it is much more relaxed. We were given a suggested itinerary by the tutors, and this meant we knew where tutors would be and if we wanted to join them we could!

"The suggested itinerary was actually very useful in giving us a few ideas of where to go. However, as a group we explored so much more, finding photography exhibitions that were very useful for our studies. We also enjoyed some downtime in the evening where we discovered Berlin’s nightlife, enjoying local bars. We went to a karaoke bar one night, it was such a laugh and we all really enjoyed it!

"One of my favourite moments of the trip was seeing Berlin's skyline from the Park Inn hotel (one of the tallest buildings in Berlin). It's located next to the television tower (Berliner Fernsehturm), so not only do you get an incredible view over the city but you also get the amazing view with the famous TV Tower in it."
