With an increasing number of international students arriving to study at Nottingham Trent University, additional opportunities are being organised to welcome them to the university.

The International Sports Festival will take place on Wednesday 20th & Thursday 21st September

Sport can play a huge part in crossing over national, social and linguistic barriers, and so for the first time, an International Sports Festival will begin on Wednesday 20 September – a day that is also International Day of University Sport!

Patterned on the hugely popular Play for Fun format, the sport will focus on building social links amongst the players. The sessions aim to give a fun and easy-to-pick-up option for those who are active and inactive alike. All equipment is provided and sportswear is recommended.

The sessions will take place in the renovated City Sports Centre on Wednesday 20 September, and the Lee Westwood Sports Centre on Thursday 21 September.

The sessions are organised around the International welcome events, so begin on Wednesday 20 September at 4pm with Basketball, Volleyball and Handball. They then continue at Clifton on Thursday 21 September with Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball, Futsal and Dodgeball. All are free to attend, and those attending will all receive a goody bag with free gifts, and a voucher for free sessions to Play for Fun activities that start on Monday 2 October. The sessions will be run by current experienced students and coaches, schooled in getting you to have fun! If you are wanting to go on the bus, the fare is not provided, and a return fare is £3.70 (exact change required). Further details on getting to Clifton can be found at www.nctx.co.uk.

It’s important as a department that our programmes are versatile and suitable to all students, no matter what their background, nationality or ability. We hope that the International Sports Festival will encourage new and international students to feel more integrated into NTU, and most importantly, we hope that they have fun! As every year, we’re looking forward to welcoming all new and returning students back to NTU Sport.
