Two civil engineering students have been awarded scholarships by The Queen's Jubilee Scholarship Trust (QUEST). The Queen's Jubilee Scholarship Trust was set up in 1977 to support and encourage education in civil engineering. This prestigious scholarship provides financial support to civil engineering undergraduates and the opportunity work with a leading civil engineering or construction company. The selection process is competitive and includes a series of interviews with industry experts. The Institution of Civil Engineers have been supporting the scholarship for many years and help with the management and training of the scholarship and host the main interviews at their London headquarters.

Rebecca Paramor (BEng) Hons Civil Engineering and Peter Homer BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering, both first year students, have been awarded a scholarship of up to £10,000 over the course of their studies, including paid summer work placements next year, and a potential full-time job with their sponsored companies.

Rebecca will be sponsored by Morgan Sindall throughout her studies where she’ll undertake an 8 week summer paid placement next year, a sandwich year starting in 2019 and a place on their graduate scheme once she graduates. Morgan Sindall has worked with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) for the last nine years to inspire and mentor the sharpest young minds as they embark on the start of their civil engineering degrees. Morgan Sindall is the largest patron of the QUEST scheme with over 30 civil engineering students sponsored under this programme to date.

Peter will be sponsored by BAM Nuttall throughout his studies where he’ll also undertake a summer paid placement and the opportunity to join their graduate scheme. BAM Nuttall is one of the leading UK construction and civil engineering companies and has been involved with the ICE QUEST scholarship for many years.

Rebecca commented: “It was a shock to be chosen but I’m really pleased and looking forward to having the opportunity to learn and build on my skills for a future career as a civil engineer. I’m excited to see which sites I’ll be visiting with Morgan Sindall.”

Peter commented: “It was a real boost to learn I had been chosen by BAM Nuttall. This is the perfect start to my degree and I hope to gain some real insight into how BAM Nuttall work as a company and the types of projects they are working on currently.”
