An Introduction to Information Design

Kathryn Coates, NTU's Senior Lecturer in BA (Hons) Graphic Design, and former colleague Andy Ellison published their first book, An Introduction to Information Design in 2014.

The book was recently translated and published in Chinese and Spanish, extending its reach to a wider audience around the globe.

Prior to her role at NTU, Kathryn worked for The Times supplements as their Deputy Head of Design, and in 2006 took over the role of Art Editor for the Times Higher Education (THE). Alongside her editorial responsibilities, Kathryn forged strong links with illustrators she commissioned and was also a judge for the annual Association of Illustrators’ World Illustration Awards.

Andy is a member of The Typographic Circle, the Sign Design Society and the International Institute for Information Design, and previously taught graphic design at NTU.

An Introduction to Information Design is about visualising information through graphic design. Fully illustrated case studies from leading designers provide a deeper understanding into the challenges involved in creating information design for print, interactive and environmental media.

Practical exercises and tips enable readers to put this learning into practice, making it the perfect book for graphic design students as well as design enthusiasts.
