Seven students in their final year of the BA (Hons) Fine Art course at Nottingham Trent University are presenting new work in an exhibition at Nottingham’s Surface Gallery on Southwell Road.

The exhibition in the first floor gallery space, entitled Of A Curious Nature, showcases the work of Rosie Elston, Freya Garnon-Cox, Christos Gkenoudis, James Handley, Demi Hill, Lauren-Rose Murphy and Emily Stollery.

Whilst the artists have unique practices, the works they present are united by a response to a shared fascination with the concept of curiosity. The works span drawing, sculpture and performance, and demonstrate the artists’ abilities to manipulate materials and unpick the interior life of the self.

Emily Stollery said: "Of a Curious Nature presented me with an opportunity to exhibit my sculptural work outside of the university for the first time. So I'm very grateful for that."

She particularly enjoyed the group-working aspect of the show: "It's been a great experience to curate a show as a group, bringing our disparate works together in the space, linked through an ongoing curiosity in our chosen medium," she said.

Christos Gkenoudis added: "Surface Gallery have been very supportive to us as young emerging artists; they have amazing staff who help out."

Surface Gallery was established back in 1999 by alumni of the Fine Art course at NTU, and has been supporting the emerging talent on the course ever since by facilitating collaborative and individual curating and exhibiting opportunities.

Of a Curious Nature is free to visit, and is running at Surface Gallery until Saturday 20 January.
