Students in their final year of the BA (Hons) Graphic Design course recently held a highly successful auction fundraiser. Taking place at Rough Trade on Broad Street in Nottingham’s Hockley on Monday 26 February, students Megan Williams, Becky Pearey, Becky Pratt, Becca Liversidge, Amaia Kurschinski and Louise Merry organised all elements of the event in order to raise money for their Degree Show this June.

39 artworks donated by some well-known artists went under the hammer, including pieces by NTU alumni Jon Burgerman and Rob Ryan, in addition to Anthony Burrill, Milton Glaser, Alan Kitching and Mike Perry.

The auction raised an impressive £1,700 in total. The piece by Alan Kitching raised £100, and Rob Ryan’s work raised £80. A screen print by local graphic designers Joff + Ollie, made exclusively for interior accessories company Lane, sold for £106.

Lots of people turned out to show their support for this group of young creatives. In addition to the auction, there was a raffle, live music and stalls from which student prints, zines and other merchandise were available to purchase.

Student Louise Merry commented: “It was extremely stressful but all worth it! I’m especially grateful for the kind donations of work from the artists, and enjoyed how the event brought the whole course, staff and students together.”

The NTU annual Degree Show is one of the largest exhibitions of work by graduating artists and designers in the UK. Follow the Year Three Graphic Design students on their Instagram account @ntuallsorts to follow their #NTUDEGREESHOW journey.
