A student in her final year of our BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Promotion course has recently been nominated for an award at the 2018 Cosmopolitan Influencer Awards. Arooj Aftab, known for her work as gender-wear style influencer Vogue Wonders, was nominated for Best Newcomer by NTU alumna Sedge Beswick, founder and director of influencer marketing agency SEEN Connects.

The Cosmopolitan Influencer Awards exist to recognise the best and most innovative people working in today’s highly competitive influencer industry. Arooj made the shortlist of just ten emerging influencers to be put forward for the Best Newcomer award, marking her out as a definite one to watch.

Describing her style as “androgynous, something like boy meets girl with a sprinkle of smart, but still street”, Arooj has been gaining followers and support for her unique styling of menswear, and her innovative approach to showcasing her style. As well as a successful Instagram channel, Arooj posts regular content on her website voguewonders.com, an online space for her to share her take on fashion and style.

Arooj chatted to us about the nomination: “I actually couldn’t believe it, it’s so insane. I’m really overwhelmed and honoured to have made the shortlist; that is enough for me.”

She continued: “The awards evening itself was incredible; I met so many great people, it has definitely made me want to continue to put more of my work out there. Being part of this process has shown me that things come when you least expect it, so you just have to keep working hard and things will fall into place - you need to believe in your work. The amount of followers you have doesn’t matter, it’s all about content and what makes you different.”

She added: “It has really boosted my motivation to write more, Instagram more and just do more. Thank you to everyone who has supported my content so far!”
