China Academy of Art visits NTU to strengthen ties

One of NTU’s prestigious partners, China Academy of Art, sent a delegation to visit NTU this week to strengthen academic and enterprise ties between the two art schools.

    China Academy of Art (CAA) is an elite Arts Academy based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province and currently holds an exchange agreement with Nottingham Trent University’s (NTU) School of Art & Design. Hangzhou, close to Shanghai and Ningbo, is a cultural and creative hub in China, with a rich history in arts and crafts.

    NTU’s Dean of the School of Art & Design, Michael Marsden, received the visitors, who were led by CAA’s Vice Chairman of Academic Affairs, Hu Zhonghua, and Vice-Dean of the School of Crafts, Li Yupu.

    Discussions focused on how CAA could learn from NTU’s exceptional graduate employability record and help more of NTU’s students experience China. It is hoped that CAA will host a study trip for BA (Hons) Fashion Management students, enabling them to understand the Chinese fashion industry, from production through to marketing and retail.

    The two institutions also expressed the desire for longer academic staff exchanges, and to create joint projects for students to undertake.

    College International Manager, Andrew Plant told us: “CAA and NTU have been working together on student exchange over the last three years following a visit to Hangzhou in 2015. As one of the most prestigious arts universities in China, CAA is an important partner for NTU, and we are seeking to deepen our relationship in the coming months.

    “It is a testament to their belief in our relationship that we are the only UK institution they visited during their trip to Europe. Zhejiang Province has been identified as an area of concentration for NTU’s work in China given our existing links and governmental support, so we are very pleased that CAA want to work more closely with us.”

    The delegation visited The Hive to learn about start-up support for students and graduates and were briefed by the School of Art & Design’s Employability Coordinator, Linda Marchant.
