NTU Law student named top 10 finalist in the Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards

Postgraduate Masters in Law (LLM) student, Georgina Fairhall, has been named a top 10 finalist in the Technology Business category of the Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards.

The awards are aimed at giving a financial boost to student and graduate business ventures in their early stages. The Hive, NTU’s Centre for Entrepreneurship and Enterprise, has taken part in the competition for the past three years. Georgina was one of 35 entrants from NTU to pitch their initial ideas to The Hive team and this is the first time that a student or graduate from NTU has gone through to the semi-finals of the competition. Georgina is also receiving support from the ERDF funded Enabling Innovation programme at NTU.

Georgina was selected as a finalist in the Technology business category for her business idea, WAC (Work & Communications), a data platform which helps businesses to keep track of employee data. Her idea stemmed from her experience of working in hospitality and events for over 10 years and finding it hard to keep track of the hours she worked and how much she was being paid.

The app is designed to provide a secure platform for employers and employees, and ensure transparency within the workplace. It is deemed as essential for employees who are paid hourly, are on zero-hours contacts, or are freelancers.

Georgina will go on to the Central Region semi-finals in Leicester on Wednesday 27 June, where she will be in with the chance to win a share of £90,000 seed funding, plus other prizes designed to support and help grow their business.

The Hive supports NTU students and graduates who have a business idea or are looking to go freelance. Visit The Hive website to get in touch with the team and find out how they can support you.
