The competition is open to domestic and international accessory designers, students and teachers studying fashion or accessory design, and anyone with a passion for fashion or accessory design.

Donghua University, one of Nottingham Trent University’s (NTU) prestigious international partners in Shanghai, China, extended the invitation to include Lee Mattocks, BA (Hons) Fashion Accessory Design course leader and founder of ethical accessories brand MATTOX, on the judging panel.

Fellow judges include world-renowned fashion designers, design directors, accessory designers, and fashion media representatives.

Lee told us: “I will be looking for a very innovative use of materials together with high quality craftsmanship. I will also be on the lookout for directional collections that also have commercial viability and the potential to have some impact on the fashion accessories market.

“Having the opportunity to see work from aspiring designers from around the world is such a fantastic opportunity because it allows me to continue to develop teaching materials from an international perspective and establish even more links for future projects for our fashion accessory design students to take on.”

Each of the three award categories – Bags, Shoes/Hats, and Accessories – will select Gold, Silver and Bronze winners, offering cash prizes of 50,000 CNY (approx. £5,650), 30,000 CNY (approx. £3,400), and 10,000 CNY (approx. £1,130) respectively.

The winners will be announced at the end of November in Xiamen, China.

Before Lee jets off to China, he will also be taking his ethical accessories brand MATTOX to The London Artisan, an annual curated marketplace bringing together 50 of the UK’s most exciting contemporary designers.
