Student Naomi, who found a way to keep active and gain confidence through the NTU Sport Play for Fun programme, is a fantastic example of the way that sport and physical activity can enhance your time at university!

Meet Naomi

Name: Naomi Dilla

Year of study: Postgraduate

Course studied: MSc Biomedical Science

I play Volleyball, Basketball, Trampolining - I try to make it once a week for each. These sessions are part of NTU's Play for Fun programme, which is designed for people who just want to have fun and try something different.

Play for Fun runs through term time and you don't need to sign up or join anything, you can just turn up and attend whatever you want, whenever you want! Sessions are £2.

I have always been very self-conscious of my weight and body type; and a little awkward too. Being able to participate in sports through Play for fun has made me a little more confident about my body and excited about exercise.

What are the benefits sport and physical activity can offer to people?

I think it can help us all to keep fit and definitely contributes to a healthier lifestyle. Since Play for Fun doesn’t have the added pressure of winning or getting trophies, I find myself laughing and smiling more while participating and long after I’ve gotten home, no matter how exhausted I am.

What would you say to someone who is hesitating to try a new sport or activity?

It never hurts to try! There are so many different activities every day across all the campuses, you have your pick.

The first day is the hardest, but it gets so much better! I’m still learning the basics for my sports, but there’s people at each session that are just there to help and give us the support we need.

Find NTU Sport at one of the It’s Not Too Late Term Two events, they’re taking place at all three campuses and there to show you all there is to get stuck into and enjoy.
