NTU lose out to strong Leeds Beckett side

NTU Men’s Rugby Union hosted Leeds with hopes of getting a vital win to lift them off the bottom of the table. However, it was not to be for NTU as they fell to another defeat.

As the BUCS Super Rugby, season progresses at pace, NTU Rugby Union welcomed Leeds Beckett with hopes of a much needed win to keep them in touch with those above them in the table.

Coming in to the game after a week without a fixture due to a weather postponement, NTU’s last match came two weeks ago when they lost out to Leeds Beckett on 23 January. NTU knew they needed to up their performance if they were to get anything out of the game. Unfortunately, it was not to be for NTU as they once again fell to defeat against Leeds Beckett. The final score: NTU 22-45 LBU.

After the game, the result leaves NTU at the bottom of the BUCS Super Rugby table. The team go in to next week’s game against Durham knowing they desperately need a win to stay within touching distance of ninth placed Loughborough.

It was a dream start for the visitors as they went over within the first five minutes of the match to take the lead: NTU 0-7 LBU.

With Leeds Beckett adding another try to their tally in the first twenty minutes of the match, NTU had it all to do. Good work from Jake Farnworth saw him go over in the corner to grab the pinks first try of the match: NTU 8-14 LBU.

The game entered halftime with the scores at NTU 8-24 LBU.

Leeds Beckett added another try and penalty to the score in the second half to take a strong lead in to the final fifteen minutes of the game: NTU 8-38 LBU.

With the game looking all but over two try’s in quick succession from the home side pulled the scores closer as NTU looked for a bonus point: NTU 22-38 LBU.

As the referee blew for full time the final score on another tough day for the men in pink: NTU 22-45 LBU.

The lads return to training as they prepare to face sixth placed Durham in a must win game for the team.
