We've saved £10,000 through furniture and equipment re-use!

Through use of WARPit, an online furniture and equipment reuse portal, NTU has realised savings of over £10,000

The portal, launched by the Sustainable Development Team in September 2018, helps staff to redistribute their School’s or Department’s unwanted furniture and equipment. WARPit helps increase resource efficiency, and reduce unnecessary procurement and waste disposal costs, and has already achieved savings of £10,000.

This has included 52 chairs, 25 desks, 57 storage items, as well as 1100 envelopes and many other furniture and stationery items, saving 5500kg CO2 and avoiding 2500kg of waste.

To celebrate reaching £10,000 in savings, any new items added or claimed from WARPit will receive a celebratory chocolate bar (whilst stocks last). Also look out for ‘hidden’ chocolate bars added to WARPit periodically that staff members can claim for free.

On WARPit, staff members can advertise assets internally, and if they are not claimed, they can be donated to local schools and community groups. NTU staff members can register for free at https://www.warp-it.co.uk/company/ntu

If you are involved with a local school as a parent, grandparent, governor etc. then make sure the school is signed up on the system so they can also access our surplus assets. There is no charge to join and the surplus assets are free. Please ask them to register here to start to access free corporate assets.

Alternatively, if you are involved with a local charity or community group, please ask them to register here.

Rebecca Mills, from CADQ, who is involved with the 44th Nottingham Scouts Group which recently received 50 surplus chairs from NTU said, ‘The group are delighted with the chairs. Being able to have some newer furniture for free means we have more money to spend on activities with the children! This week they are roller skating, many for the first time!’
