Geography alumnus runner up in CIWEM technical paper competition
Kieran Gething, BSc (Hons) Geography (Physical) alumnus, reached the finals of a technical paper competition run by the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).

Kieran had to submit a short technical paper for the competition, alongside a 20-minute presentation and questions during the finals in February 2019.
The paper he submitted was based on the dissertation he competed at NTU as part of the BSc (Hons) Geography (Physical) course. The dissertation and subsequent paper was based on benthic invertebrates and drainage channels in Lincolnshire.

Kieran competed against two recent PhD graduates and a MEng graduate in the final, and came in second.
The prizes were handed out by Mr David Wickens, 32nd president of CIWEM.
Kieran said: “This competition was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the effort which I put into my dissertation, a piece of work which would not have been possible without the guidance of great NTU staff members.”
Since graduating from NTU in the summer of 2018, Kieran is now studying MSc Environmental Monitoring at Loughbourgh University, and hopes to study for a PhD in the near future.
