The Joint University Council (JUC) have conferred the award of Fellow on six leading public administration scholars this January, including Professor Pete Murphy of Nottingham Business School.

The JUC is the UK Learned Society for public administration, public policy and social work. It exists to promote, develop and coordinate the work of higher education institutions in the pursuit of education, training and research in public administration, public policy and social work. It currently represents the vast majority of higher education institutions in the UK in teaching and researching in these fields.

The JUC recognises new Fellows for their outstanding contribution to and leadership of the learned society and wider subject area, following a process of extensive peer reviewing.

Professor Murphy is Director of the Public Policy and Management Research Group within NTU's Centre for Economics, Policy and Public Management, and his research focuses on issues including performance management, governance, scrutiny, and value-for-money arrangements of locally delivered public services.

Upon being named a Fellow, Professor Murphy told us: “It is a great honour for me as a former practitioner who has found an academic home at NTU over the last ten years to follow in the scholastic footsteps of Professors Chris Bellamy and Joyce Liddle and be made a fellow of the Learned Society.”

He added: “It is particularly gratifying as it is an honour bestowed by our peers. I have however been extremely fortunate to benefit from the inspiration and encouragement of numerous colleagues in the Business School and it is to them that I would wish express my thanks.”
