Business Management and Human Resources students impress SMEs at Leadership and Employability event
Students studying BA (Hons) Business Management and Human Resources at Nottingham Business School (NBS) presented research and recommendations into graduate recruitment processes.

Final year students were given the chance to present their work to a number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) at a Leadership and Employability event at Nottingham Business School (NBS). Organised by the course team and the Employability team at Nottingham Trent University (NTU), the event posed an opportunity for students to engage with industry professionals and learn about real workplace challenges.
Students delivered poster presentations to SMEs, summarising the key findings of investigations regarding current trends in graduate employment, and evaluating the barriers affecting graduate recruitment amongst SMEs. The presentations also required each group of students to identify and evaluate current recruitment practices in SMEs, while providing recommendations to key stakeholders (local authorities, organisations and universities) on how SME’s recruitment processes can be improved to retain graduate talent in Nottingham.

The event was organised to provide opportunities for our students to engage with experts and businesses who are seeking diverse solutions in the area of recruitment and selection of graduates. Likewise, the event provided students with an opportunity to learn about the ‘real’ challenges facing SMEs in human resource acquisition and management.
Students and business owners alike commended NBS for the opportunity to gain valuable insight at this event. Students felt that the event improved their learning and put theory into the context of real business challenges. The ideas and inspiration the students offered to businesses provided a catalyst for idea generation and problem solving within their organisations.
The collaboration between our students, who are the next generation of entrepreneurs and business experts, and those currently providing business solutions, further encapsulates NBS’s ambitions. NBS strives to impart knowledge to students on the concepts and theories of business, but also introduces them to best practice in businesses and real-world challenges that may be encountered in the industry.
