Studying abroad and international experiences

At NTU, you’ll be part of a community of staff and students from over 160 countries. You’ll get to enhance your university experience and your employability through international university events, travel, language courses, programmes and awards.

Want to learn a new language?

We offer free language courses* to students looking to learn a new language or improve existing skills. You can study Arabic, Business English, Chinese (Mandarin), English as a Foreign Language (EFL) French, German, Japanese, Italian and Spanish.

Our weekly Language Café events with our student volunteers are a great chance to practice your language skills too. If you’d like to practise a language one-on-one, we can pair you with a language exchange partner, who is a native speaker.

*A deposit is required to register and is refunded on successful completion.

Studying abroad

You can study abroad at over 300 partner institutions worldwide for a single week up to a whole year. For semester and year-long study this is usually for undergraduates in the second year of a three-year course, or the third year of a four-year sandwich course.

However, shorter study can take place at any time and during holidays – we’ll help you find study exchange programmes, work placements or volunteering opportunities, and show you how to access funding through the Turing Scheme, or NTU travel scholarships.

Spending a semester abroad was the most inspirational, exciting experience of my life. It opened my eyes to a whole new culture, and I met people from all around the world. I got to experience a new lifestyle and learn about different approaches to design.

Global Employability Award

This exciting award is delivered in collaboration with NTU’s Employability team to support students in becoming global graduates and developing international-related skills outside of your studies. This could involve volunteering for our Language Café, taking part in a summer school, organising a cultural event, representing a culture or a global issue at Global Week, becoming a Global Lounge Assistant, taking part in challenges, and much more.
