Nottingham Business School student creates charity T-shirts for graduating students

The T-shirts celebrate the Class of 2020, and a percentage of the profits are being donated to NHS charities.

BA (Hons) Business Management and Marketing student Alexandra Eyles and graphic designer Olivia Cann have teamed up to sell commemorative T-shirts celebrating the graduating class of 2020.

The pair decided to start the enterprising project after graduation ceremonies were cancelled or postponed across the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, many students are missing out on being able to celebrate the end of their degree with friends or family, Alexandra being one of them.

By combining their marketing and creative design skills, Alexandra and Olivia decided to create a graduate T-shirt to allow students to be able to have something special to signify the end of their degree, and commemorate what has been a difficult and unprecedented end of the academic year. In order to give back to the NHS during this time, 30% of profits from T-shirt sales will be donated to NHS Charities Together.

Enterprising Alexandra has been using skills gained during her BA (Hons) Business Management and Marketing degree to help her launch the project. She commented: “Using my marketing knowledge and everything I’ve learned in the last 4 years is hugely satisfying, especially when it’s aiding our NHS and other students across all universities. I have gained new creative and editing skills as well as negotiating skills, while building on the media planning and buying skills I gained during my placement year. As graduate employment is sadly on hold, this is a great opportunity to keep active in my learning and to fully apply myself. In my future career I hope to take my entrepreneurial spirit to the workplace and beyond.”

“As a final year student, I think the situation is definitely more daunting as you realise your time at University has suddenly come to an end. It proved to be challenging at the beginning with online teaching starting to commence whilst juggling important final submissions; dissertations, coursework and exam revision simultaneously. I’ve found that Nottingham Business School have continued to provide support by offering online 1-1 calls with tutors and providing extensive learning materials to help for final exams. No doubt being at home is a distraction for some students, but with materials online it has allowed us final year students to still keep on track on achieving the grade we aspire for.”
