My time at NTU

I spent my first year at NTU as a textiles design student and transferred to fashion knitwear. I’ve enjoyed experimenting with a range of textile processes and have incorporated them into my final collection.

My placement year

In my placement year I spent six months working at Puma in Germany in the Creative Direction team, here I was able to work on helping generate ideas and concepts for the creative direction for 2020. Working across teams I was able to develop a good understanding of how the apparel, footwear and accessories departments work together to create a cohesive and exciting collection, whilst learning a range of new design skills. I then spent a further four months at Bobble creating knitted swatch designs. This was also a great opportunity as I was able to develop knitting abilities and ideas for my final year collection.

Graduate Fashion Week 2020 finalist

I’m delighted to have been selected as a finalist in the Fashion Illustration Award category, in this year’s Graduate Fashion Week Awards. As I completed my collection at home, it was really important to me that my illustrations indicated the details of the garments I wanted to create, including the knit structures and silhouettes. This was an exciting process for me when building my collection and I am excited to be able to share this with Graduate Fashion Week.

My final collection

My final collection explores individual style and how fashion should be a playful expression of textiles and influences. The inspiration behind the collection titled 'Galactic Nomad' was inspired by graffiti photographed on a trip to Berlin. The graffiti reads 'Too alien for earth, Too human for space'.  The collection is a 'human case study' playing around with mixing contrasting elements of my life and inspirations as if they were being interpreted by someone from out of this world. This has resulted in a colourful and textural range of knitted materials which explore galactic surface textures and vintage garments prints.

The collection experiments with mixing knitted textiles and print designs. Through my love of texture and materials, I’ve played with combining different knit structures and embroidery into one piece of fabric, to represent the vast inspiration behind individual self-expression.
