In its 75th year, the UN is working with partners to initiate dialogues within and across borders, sectors and generations. The aim is to reach as many people as possible to listen to their hopes and fears, learn from their experiences and empower them to think and act globally.

NTU’s three-day event, hosted by the University’s Virtual Institute of Advanced Studies, took place 24 - 26 November 2020 and engaged directly with the UN75 Dialogue theme of Living Securely. Each of the three days featured a unifying theme underpinning the individual sessions exploring a number of key research strengths including Equality, Society & Human Rights; Health, Wellbeing & Access to Healthcare; and Sustainable Cultures.

Each session was led by NTU academics, experts in their respective fields, and brought together students, fellow academics, activists and citizens and colleagues from a diverse global network of partner institutions and organisations. This provided participants with a collaborative platform to develop and project key themes, challenges and responsibilities across borders and generational divides with a view to effecting positive change in global human security.

Professor Cillian Ryan, Pro Vice-Chancellor International, said: “The UN75 at NTU conference was a fantastic opportunity for our research teams to engage with colleagues and partners across the globe, providing a collaborative platform to develop and project key themes, challenges and responsibilities with a view to effecting positive change in global human security. We were delighted to welcome such a diverse range of individuals to the event and look forward to collaborating further and building on this dialogue in the coming months.”

Professor Kshitij Bansal from O.P Jindal Global University, one of NTU’s key international partners, said: “As a part of the continuing institutional partnership between NTU and O. P. Jindal Global University, I had the pleasure of contributing to the UN75 conference organised by NTU. The session chaired by my NLS colleague, Professor David Ong explored the larger theme of climate change and its interaction with Public International Law. With a diverse panel of academics and practitioners, I hope our conversations will stimulate further discourses in the discipline.”
