Meat Free Monday and Low-Carbon Meals

When: Monday and All Week
Where: Main dining locations (refectories) at all three campuses

NTU Catering are committed to finding ways to reduce our environmental impact and offer a range of vegetarian and vegan options. Monday is #MeatFreeMonday across NTU refectories.

Plus, look out for delicious vegetarian/vegan options which will be offered at a discounted rate throughout Green Week!

Don’t forget to log your Meat Free Meal on Green Rewards for a chance to win a voucher for the new VeganBeets Street Food pop-up at NTU.

Dr Bike and ‘Give it a Go’ on an e-bike

When: 12-2pm; Tuesday, 12 November
Where: Plaza, Clifton Campus

Does your bike need a bit of love? Come along to NTU’s Dr. Bike session for a free tune up. NTU’s friendly bike mechanic, Paul, can help you get your bike functioning at top performance and it’s free for NTU staff and students.

Curious what it’s like to ride an e-bike? E-bikes will be available for test rides during this session. Come and ‘Give it a Go’!


Carbon Literacy Training

When: 9.00am-5.30pm; Tuesday, 12 November
Where: Newton Building, City Campus

Are you concerned about the climate crisis? Are you concerned about how businesses and societies will be affected by the climate crisis and want to find out ways you could still mitigate the risks?

By taking part in this training, you will gain an understanding of:

  • The basic science behind the climate crisis
  • The impact different sectors such as food have on our climate and vice versa
  • Solutions with the highest impact  and strategies and skills for communicating and/or teaching climate actions

Nottingham Sustainability Conference

Where: Newton Building, City Campus

NTU and NTSU are jointly hosting the "Nottingham Sustainability Conference 2019" for elected sabbatical officers as leaders, to share ideas, provide a voice for implementing sustainability at their institution and plan positive action!

Allotment Volunteering Session

When: 1-3pm; Wednesday, 13 November
Where: Allotment, behind Peverell Hall reception building, Clifton Campus

Spend some time outdoors in NTU’s FoodShare allotment on Clifton Campus. You’ll get a chance to help out with pruning and harvesting of some of the organic produce on site -and you’ll get to sample some of the fresh produce you’ve picked!

NTU Crowd Research Workshop

When: 9.30am-4.00pm; Thursday, 14 November
Where: Arkwright Building, City Campus

Do you believe the power of Crowd? Crowd Research uses a crowdsourcing technique for coordinating a large group of people in an open-ended research exploration.

NTU is inviting people interested in sustainability to participate in this event, which is organised by Daniel Shin, NTU product design lecturer. The aim is to use the power of crowd to complete the data collection and analysis of a research project in a day!!!

Enactus Ideation Session

When: 3pm--4pm, Friday 15 November
Where: NEWLT9 (Lecture Theatre 9), Newton, City Campus

EnactusNTU will be running an informative and interactive session on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how you can positively impact them during your studies at Trent!

The session will include a brief intro to the Goals and co-hosted with an Enactus sponsor company. After this, all students will take part in groups of up to 5 to come up with innovative project ideas to impact a specific UN SDG.

There will be prizes for the best ideas!


Plastic Free Friday

Take part in Plastic Free Friday by saying no to single use plastics. Use your reusable water bottle, bring your own take away container and avoid disposables for the day.

Don’t forget to take the Plastic Pledge on Green Rewards and earn 300 green points. Each month two staff and two students will be rewarded with £20 vouchers for being top points earners!


Sustainability in Practice-Energy Challenge Day

When: 9am-5pm; Friday, 15 November
Where: Clifton Campus

The Sustainability in Practice Certificate is a free course to help you expand your knowledge about sustainability, enhance your CV and develop valuable skills such as communication and problem-solving. Want to complete the SiP Certificate in one day? Come along to the SiP Energy Challenge Day! Here you will get the opportunity to work with students from different courses and collaborate on how to overcome sustainability challenges.

Cycling: Bikers Breakfast

Have you cycled into NTU today? We’d like to say thank you for doing your bit by opting for active travel. If you are an NTU staff or student member look out for instructions displayed in the bike sheds to claim your voucher for a free breakfast!

Recycling: RecycleLeague

NTU is taking part in RecycleLeague - a pilot project to compete against 10 other universities for the chance to claim the recycling crown and win a £15,000 prize for a campus sustainability project.

Keep an eye for NTU’s Recycling Ambassadors who will be out and about at all 3 campuses giving out ‘Green High Five’ prizes for good recycling behaviour!

And don’t forget to Report Your Recycling in GreenRewards for a chance to win a £50 voucher through our fortnightly prize draw!


Take Action and Get Rewarded

Since the launch of Green Rewards earlier this year, NTU staff and students have taken an impressive 35,000 positive actions to boost sustainability and well-being, saving 33 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Each month four top points earners (2 students and 2 staff) are rewarded for their green behaviour with £20 vouchers and a termly £200 charity donation is made on behalf of the highest scoring team within the university.
