Booking could not be simpler. All you need to begin is your student ID number and size measurements. Size charts for both the gown and mortarboard cap are above for your convenience, and information on how to measure your height and head circumference can be found further on in our FAQs.

You can book your graduation robes after you have registered for your ceremony in April. The deadline for booking your robes in advance will be in May.

If you do not book your robes in advance, we cannot guarantee their availability. 

You should wear smart clothes to your graduation ceremony; jeans and trainers are not acceptable. Robe-makers like ourselves normally recommend clothing that accentuates the traditional gown. Suit jackets help to puff out the shoulders, giving the hood more security. Shirts with visible top buttons are highly recommended as well, as they attach to the hood via a loop, anchoring the hood and preventing it from slipping back. Low-cut tops provide less security for the hood. Again, some form of shirt with a top button is highly recommended. Please also ensure you wear appropriate footwear for walking up and down the stage steps.

For both height and head size you should use a device that cannot be stretched, such as a tape measure or a piece of string with half-centimetre measurements marked on.

To measure your full height

Take off your shoes, socks, and any headwear. Stand with your back straight, preferably against a wall, and with your feet together. Either have somebody else mark the highest point of your head on the wall with a pencil, or place a box on your head, hold it there, and mark the wall underneath it with a pencil. Then simply measure from the floor to the pencil mark with a measuring tape.

To measure your head size

Wrap the tape around the widest part of the head. This is usually just above the eyebrows around to the widest part of the back of the head. Measure this at least 3 times and take the largest number.

You can collect your graduation attire from the Arkwright Room 006, situated in the Arkwright Building, Shakespeare St, Nottingham, NG1 4BU, at the following times:

10am Ceremonies: From 8:30am on the day of the ceremony

11:45am Ceremonies: From 10:15am on the day of the ceremony

2:00pm Ceremonies: From 12:30pm on the day of the ceremony

3:45pm Ceremonies: From 2:15pm on the day of the ceremony

5:30pm Ceremonies: From 4:00pm on the day of the ceremony

All purchases for graduation ceremonies will be available for collection on the day of the ceremony from the collection points specified in the "Where and when can I collect my graduation attire" FAQ.

If you need your gown prior to the ceremony please email us on service@graduationattire.co.uk no later than 4 weeks prior to your ceremony & we will get this arranged for you.

Yes. Many people prefer to extend their hire, allowing them to take their own pictures with their graduation attire once the ceremony has concluded. This costs an extra £30 and gives the student an extra 7 days with the gown, hood and cap. A prepaid Royal Mail returns bag is included, allowing you to send the gown back to us hassle-free.

Please return your graduation attire to the returns desk next to the registration desk in the Newton Building, Goldsmith St, Nottingham NG1 4BU, before the following times:

10am Ceremonies: Before 6pm

11:45am Ceremonies: Before 6pm

2:00pm Ceremonies: Before 6pm

3:45pm Ceremonies: Before 6pm

6pm Ceremonies: Before 8pm

Yes. You will receive a confirmation email with all your details and useful information about your ceremony. We recommend you screenshot this on your phone and/or print this out and take it with you to your graduation ceremony. If you do not receive this email, make sure to check that you have entered the correct email address, and check your spam folder before contacting our customer service team for assistance.

Yes. The first port of call would be to email us at service@graduationattire.co.uk with the issue you are facing and contact details. Generally, if you have made a mistake with the size of your gown or cap, you should not worry, we will have plenty of spares available on the day. Anything you have already paid for will require changes to be made manually over the phone, if this is the case, we shall phone you using the contact details left on the email. This would include refunding an order or change the gown day hire to an extended hire, or even purchase.

When you are signing in online, there is a ‘Request a Password’ button just under the ‘Submit’ button. Click on the ‘Request a Password’ button, enter the email address you normally use to sign in with Graduation Attire, and we will email you a new password which you can use to reset your old one.

To change your password whilst in possession of your old one, just sign-in as usual, then click the ‘My Account’ button at the top of the page and then click on ‘My Password’. This will bring up a screen that will allow you to change your password.
