Around 25% of our undergraduate students (roughly 5,500) come from families with an annual income of £15,000 or less.
All of these students come to NTU to transform their life chances.
The outstanding teaching our students receive is central to their success, but it is not the only influence on how well they do.
We are committed to closing the attainment gap between our most and least privileged students.
We know that the more students engage in work placements and extra-curricular activities, such as international volunteering, sport or music the more likely they are to complete their studies, achieve high grades and get a good job in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
But pursuing these opportunities costs money and we also know that students from poorer households access these opportunities less often than their better off peers.
Students may be working multiple part-time jobs and struggle to dedicate themselves to their studies as fully as they would like to.
In addition to what the university provides, philanthropic support enables more students to make the ideal choice, not one rooted in financials.
Since 2017, we have been working with our alumni and friends of the University to provide more than 80 philanthropic bursaries for disadvantaged students.
However, there is always more we can achieve with the help of generous individuals and organisations.
How you can help
By supporting student opportunities at NTU, you will provide the helping-hand many young people need to gain confidence, secure a first-class education, be recruited to a good graduate-entry job, and transform their life.
With your support we can enhance the university experience of disadvantaged students every year and have a positive impact on their lives and future careers, our society and economy.
