Arrival and welcome desk information

Not sure when to arrive or what to do when you get here? Don't worry, all the information you need is on this page.

Preparing for your day

As you will be aware, the Government has removed any legal requirements for social distancing or wearing of face coverings. Our graduation ceremonies are therefore being conducted on a non-socially distanced basis. Our buildings are well ventilated with a one-way system for alumni and their guests to move around the venue, with access to hand washing and/or hand sanitiser facilities.

There will be no requirement to wear face coverings. We respect that wearing them is a personal choice, but we would ask that you consider doing so when in enclosed and crowded spaces. We will have face coverings on hand for those that wish to do so. Alumni will not be expected to wear them when they approach the stage to be greeted by and photographed with the University colleague officiating, but they can choose to do so. Attendees may wish to consider taking a lateral flow test before travelling, but this is not a requirement for attending the event. We will not require any evidence of vaccination status.

When you arrive

Alumni are advised to be on Clifton Campus one and a half hours before the ceremony start time. This will allow sufficient time for you to collect your gown and for photographs to be taken. Please remember there will be a lot of students doing the same as you, so do not leave it to the last minute, so we can avoid queues forming. You will also be able to book photography slots after your ceremony.

Please ensure you are at Ceremonial Hall before doors close, 20 minutes before the start of your Graduation. Unfortunately, late attendees cannot be admitted. We will try to accommodate you in a later Graduation on the same day where possible, but this is not guaranteed.

You will receive one programme free of charge when you enter the Ceremonial Hall.

Alumni seating

All alumni will be allocated a seat according to their surname and the award they are receiving. You must sit in the seat that has been allocated to you. Alumni are called to the stage in a particular order and the seating plan has been designed around this. Failure to sit in your allocated seat may result in your name not being called out during the ceremony.

Guest seating

Guests should enter Ceremonial Hall where they will be directed to their seats by stewards. Guests are asked to be seated at least 20 minutes before the ceremony starts. Doors close 20 minutes prior to the Graduation start time.
