Every year thousands of students secure their place at university through Clearing - and it isn't as scary as you might think! We asked some of our current students who came to NTU through Clearing how they found their experience.
Nicholas, BA (Hons) Business
"My experience of Clearing was not stressful at all. I made a phone call in August, gave the relevant information to the University, got an offer back, went on UCAS on results day, accepted the offer, and that was it. It couldn't be simpler."
Rowan, Film Production Technology at Confetti
Rowan applied for Year Two entry to his course.
"I'd fallen into a real trap of work which I wasn't enjoying and Confetti really offered me a way out of that. I felt incredibly accepted and within the second week I was being invited on shoots and going out together."
Hollie, BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science
"I was so scared and terrified of what was going to happen. I spoke to a lady on the phone and she has so helpful, so calm, she really calmed my nerves. It was overall a really happy experience."
El, Music Performance at Confetti
"One of the things I would tell myself before I applied through Clearing is to just not worry as much and just stay calm. There are other options and Clearing is a really good one of those options."
Yusuf, BA (Hons) International Relations
"I first applied through Clearing on results day. I didn't apply for any other universities beforehand. I think giving myself the extra few months that I had, to decide what I wanted to do, where I wanted to do it, was really beneficial for me."
Elizabeth, BArch (Hons) Architecture (ARB/RIBA Part 1)
"There is a certain stigma surrounding the idea of Clearing – that it’s a failure. However, although in comparison to your peer group who may have been offered a place at university straight away, finding a university place through Clearing is still an achievement. It may even open up opportunities that you’d never considered beforehand, and – in my case – the outcome is infinitely better that the one I’d originally intended."
James, Audio and Music Technology
"Speaking to one of the tutors definitely made me want to come to NTU. They were able to assure me that this (Clearing) happens, and if this is what you want to do then this is the best place to be."

Kate, BA (Hons) Fashion Management
"As soon as I called NTU I was made to feel at ease by the Clearing team – the person I spoke to was calm, knowledgeable and made the process seem really easy.
Coming here was the best decision I ever made; the course is fantastic, everything has been really easy, and I honestly couldn’t see myself anywhere else now."
Emphany-Rose, BA (Hons) Health and Social Care
"I love NTU and I am glad I took up the offer and went with my gut feeling because I much prefer NTU to my original university choices."
Joseph, BA (Hons) International Relations
"[Clearing is] a leap of faith, but come three or four weeks of attending the university, you’ll love it. Don’t let the apprehension of the unknown keep you from coming, the people are lovely and anyone can fit right in."
Florence, BA (Hons) Politics and International Relations
"The whole process was stressful but people who I spoke to were really understanding and answered all my questions. Not getting in to my preferred choice was the best thing that ever happened to me and I enjoy my course a lot and have made friends for life."
Hope, FdSc Animal Science
“The advice I would give to a student going through Clearing is that even though you may have not got into your first or second choice, you will find your way and there are so many other people in the same boat.
I was so set on one path and in one mind set and would have missed an opportunity elsewhere if I hadn’t gone through Clearing. Everything happens for a reason and even though a year ago I wouldn’t have known it, coming to Nottingham Trent University was the best thing for me and I’m really happy I’m here.”
