Our response to the Government announcement on examination results
NTU is being as flexible as possible with our approach to examination results. We have assessed applicants on an individual basis, taking into account individual circumstances, to ensure that both A Level and BTEC students are not disadvantaged by the awarding of A Level, BTEC and GCSE grades this summer.
In response to the announcement from the UK government with regards to qualification grading, we would like to confirm that if you held an offer from NTU we guarantee we will give you a place if:
- your original UCAS Predicted Grades, which we received when you first applied meet our entry requirements or
- your more recent Centre Assessed Grades, which we will receive soon meet our entry requirements.
In certain circumstances, we will be able you to offer you a place using either set of grades when you have not met those terms. Please call us on 0115 848 6000 to discuss your individual position and we will advise on the next steps to ensure your place at NTU is confirmed.
If you did not apply to NTU and would like to discuss the opportunities to study here, call us now on 0115 848 6000.
Your questions answered
We are responding to all questions as quickly as we can. Below we have summarised answers to some of the questions you may have following the Government announcement:
What is the best way to show evidence of our UCAS predicted grades if we as students don’t have access to that ourselves?
NTU have access to UCAS predicted grades.
Fill in the online admissions form as advised, and we can then check the predicted grades on UCAS.
Once my place at NTU is confirmed, can I defer to September 2021?
We hope that you will join us in September 2020, but we know that you might need a bit longer before you are ready. We’d strongly recommend visiting our website, and also talking to us before making your final decision. Call our admissions team on 0115 848 6000 so that we can offer support and hopefully put your mind at ease.
If you think you have all of the necessary information, and would like to defer, please complete our online form and select ‘I would like to defer my place’.
Please note that we will not be able to defer your offer until your place is confirmed. We aim to respond to your request within three working days.
I received and accepted an offer for another course NTU as my grades last week did not meet the entry requirements of my first choice course. Should I now receive higher grades will I be able to approach NTU even though I accepted the alternative?
Yes, you can call us and we will be able to give you a place on your first choice if your original predicted grades, which we received when you first applied, or your more recent Centre Assessed Grades (which we will receive soon) meet our entry requirements.
Can you confirm that no one who has been offered a firm place through clearing will now have that offer withdrawn please?
Clearing places will not be withdrawn, as long as you have responded to the offer within the time frame.
Due to the new Government guidelines around teacher assessed grades being given, do you think it is likely that some students will move onto a different course if they now meet the course requirements? Will this free up some space on alternative/clearing courses?
Students are advised to fill in the form and we will see what we can do.
We’re only guaranteeing original course choice, but students may be able to transfer if there are spaces available. We will be as flexible as we can and this may free up space on alternative / clearing courses.
How does this affect international students who are yet to gain admission?
The Government’s announcement only applies to UK regulated qualifications.
International students or applicants should call us on 0115 848 6000 or submit an enquiry.
How will BTEC grades be affected? Will they be honoured too?
Yes, we will honour all BTEC grades and the same approach will be undertaken for BTEC students as A level students.
I had booked and paid for accommodation but have been informed it has been given away. What should I do?
We are working through the people affected in this way and will be contacting you directly to discuss your accommodation requirements.
If you would like to speak to someone directly please contact our accommodation team. You can find contact details on our accommodation website.
I have applied for a course which includes a professional accreditation as part of the standard of entry. How will this be affected?
For courses where a formal qualification is required in order to meet Professional Statutory and Regulatory Body (PSRB) requirements, for example teacher training or nursing, we are only able to accept teacher assessed grades and not your UCAS predicted grades.
Please complete our online admissions form if you are unsure if this applies to your course.
