How can I look after my mental health and wellbeing at this time?

Looking after yourself during this stressful and changing time is really important. There is comprehensive government guidance which should help you think about different ways to stay healthy and happy.

There are lots of things that you can try that could help your wellbeing if you are worried or anxious about Coronavirus or finding staying at home difficult or stressful. Our Student Support Services web pages includes a range of online resources that may help you. There are fact sheets to support your understanding of stress, anxiety and depression and activities to help you cope including a number of podcasts to help you relax and improve your sense of well-being.

If you are experiencing issues of stress, depression or anxiety then you may find our new online tool helpful, SilverCloud. The content is motivational, easy to use, interactive and relevant to students.

If you find yourself needing more support with personal, emotional or mental health difficulties, please complete the Wellbeing online form in as much detail as you can to help us to support you.

It’s also really important to look after those around you. If you are worried about a friend you can also contact us for some help.

There are a lot of apps that can help you improve your sense of well-being. Take a look to see what could work for you:

  • Action for happiness – a little personal action coach in your pocket giving you friendly ‘nudges’ with an action idea for each day
  • Headspace – First 10 sessions are free, to help you practice mindfulness
  • NTU Moves – to track your moves
  • NHS Mental Health – a range of other NHS recommend mental health apps

Accessing your doctor

Have you moved or are moving back home and need to access your doctor?

Even though you may have gone back home you will still be able to access health care during the COVID-19 pandemic through your registered GP. The Health Centres at City Campus and Clifton are continuing to provide their services. Visit their websites for further information.

If you are planning to return to Nottingham to continue your studies at NTU there is no need to register as a temporary patient elsewhere. You can still access the service over the summer break, here's how:

  • If you are prescribed medication or require a repeat prescription, the Practice can send it via Electronic Prescription Service to a nominated pharmacy near you for collection.
  • Repeat prescription requests can now be taken over the phone.
  • If you need to speak to a doctor outside of our working hours, NHS 111 is available 24/7 online or by telephone.

Currently our clinicians are consulting patients by telephone, video chat or email messages. You can speak to your doctor from wherever you are.

A message from Radford Medical Practice - City Campus Student Health Centre

Currently our clinicians are consulting patients by telephone, video chat or email message through our online service askmyGP.


The askmyGP allows you to speak to the doctor from wherever you are. Place your request using the online portal on our website, and someone will get back to you. Almost all queries are dealt with on the day (within working hours).

How can I connect with other students in the same situation as me?

There are plenty of wellbeing tips, fun activities and  ways to stay connected with other students and staff on the Virtual Global Lounge Teams site.  You can check-in here for updates from ‘Healthy NTU’ and see a wider range of support services.  Check out the physical activities on offer and join in for the feel good factor.

If you’re an Undergraduate student in your first year at NTU, you have automatically been added to an MS Teams site, coordinated by the CERT Student Mentors in your School. You can access Teams via the Study at home tile on the MyNTU dashboard. You can use this to ask questions, interact with other first-year students with similar interests to you, join in with online academic support activities and get involved with online social events.

Disability support

Is there someone I can speak to about disability support?

We are currently running an increased number of advice sessions for all students with physical, medical and long-term health conditions, so you can speak directly to one of our team of Disability Officers. The team can assess your needs and put together a support package to help you access your studies.  You can book an appointment online or speak to the team on Tel: 0115 8482085 (Option 2).

What should I do if I feel at risk of sexual or domestic violence?

If you are not safe in your household, there is still support throughout Nottingham for anyone who has experienced sexual violence or domestic violence. Please visit the Equation website for an extensive list of all the services in Nottingham that are working remotely and an update on their hours. You can also email us for support from our Student Support team during this time.

For support regarding domestic violence outside of Nottingham, visit the website for advice and details of how to get help. There is also a national sexual violence free 24/7 helpline 0808 2000 247. If you are unsure of local services in your area, please email Student Support Services and we can assist.

Coronavirus concerns
