We understand that this is a worrying time for everyone, and we're here to support you. We're monitoring the situation with Coronavirus closely, and will update this page with more information on the impact on the admissions process and any dates / deadlines as it becomes available.

Is NTU still accepting applications?

Yes, NTU is accepting applications for FE, undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses. You can apply for an undergraduate or foundation degree via UCAS, and postgraduate or professional degrees via our applicant portal and FE courses via the application form.

Below is some further information for you that you may find helpful if you’ve already applied to study with us, are considering applying, or have received an offer.

I am applying for a further education course at NTU

  • Information for FE applicants and offer holders

    Can I still apply?

    Yes, NTU is accepting applications for further education courses by email only. Information on how to apply is available on our FE homepage.

    My exams have been cancelled, how will I get my place?

    The Department for Education has announced that it will calculate a grade for each A-level, AS-level and GCSE qualification that a student is studying. This will take into account teachers’ assessments and prior attainment so may not reflect predicted grades. Ofqual has written to all students to explain this, and you can find a copy of the letter here.

    We will continue to follow government advice on this to ensure those talented students who have chosen NTU as their preferred choice can still join our community.

    A-level results will be released on Thursday 13 August and GCSE results on Thursday 20 August. Clearing will also be available from 6 July, for those to choose NTU who may not have considered us previously.

    Please note that if you were due to sit these exams as a private/independent candidate (e.g. you were due to take the examination at a test centre where you hadn’t been studying) please contact your exam board for more information about how a grade may be calculated.

    What about other qualifications, like BTECs?

    We know that exams have been cancelled for a lot of qualifications, including BTECs and International Baccalaureate courses, and results days will be different depending on the qualifications you are taking. If you are unsure when you will receive your results, contact your school / college or the exam board.

    We will do all we can to give security and confirmation to those wishing to join NTU as soon as we are able. Our offers remain valid, and any conditions can be met with awarded qualifications in the same way as any other year.

    Can I speak to a student about life at NTU?

    Of course – we’d love you to! You can register to chat with one of our students through our online messaging system. You can ask a current student anything you like about our courses, the city, halls of residence and student life.

I am applying for an undergraduate course at NTU

  • Information for UG applicants and offer holders

    Can I still apply?

    Yes, NTU is accepting applications for undergraduate courses. You can apply for an undergraduate or foundation degree via UCAS.

    Because of changes to the awarding of qualifications this year, the Office for Students has asked all universities and colleges to stop making unconditional offers and amending existing offers until Monday 4 May.

    As a result, NTU will not be making any unconditional undergraduate offers until this date, so you may be waiting a little longer than usual for a decision from us. If you already have an application with us you may not see any update until 4 May. This includes:

    • Changing a conditional unconditional offer to unconditional if you firmly accept the offer.
    • Making offers after you have attended an interview or submitted a portfolio.

    You are still able to make your firm and insurance choice by logging in to UCAS Track.

    Please be assured that this is for a limited time, and does not have an impact on your application. All offers that we have made remain in place, and please don’t worry if it is not updated right away. We want to make sure that every applicant has the best possible experience during this time, so we are following the Office for Students advice carefully.

    I’ve got an unconditional offer, is it still valid?

    Yes. If your offer is unconditional or conditional unconditional and you firmly accept the offer, then your place at NTU is confirmed. If you are waiting for your offer to be changed to unconditional after you have firmly accepted it, please don't worry, your place is confirmed and we will make the change as soon as we are able to do so.

    Will the UCAS deadlines change?

    The UCAS decision deadlines in May have been moved from 19 May to 18 June. UCAS will be emailing all students affected by this change, so please make sure your email address is up to date in Track and keep checking your messages. You can still make your decision before this date if you choose to do so.

    Other deadlines may also move, as things are changing all the time. Please be assured that we at NTU will keep students updated as soon as we know more.

    How do I make my firm and insurance choice?

    We hope you choose NTU as your university but we’re mindful it’s a big decision and a big commitment. Make sure your firm choice is your preferred choice for the right reasons. Before you accept an offer, here are a few things to research to make sure it’s where you want to go:

    • Do you really want to study there for the next three, four, or more years?
    • Is the course right for you?
    • Does the course have exams, coursework, or both?
    • What’s the difference between a lecture and a seminar?
    • Have you thought about where you will live and how much it will cost?
    • Is it a city or a campus uni?
    • What are the societies and nightlife like?
    • Have you been to an open day or taken a virtual tour?

    You are still able to make your firm and insurance choices via UCAS Track. Please note that NTU will not be making any updates to offer statuses, in line with advice from the Office for Students, so please don’t worry if your offer with NTU isn’t updated right away – it remains in place. I am applying for a postgraduate course at NTU

    Can I still apply?

    Yes, NTU is accepting applications for 2020 entry. You can apply for postgraduate or professional degrees via our applicant portal, and access detailed information on how to apply.

    My exams have been cancelled, how will I get my place?

    We understand that some universities and colleges will have cancelled exams, and some will be using online assessments in order to determine degree awards. Universities and colleges are working hard to ensure that a degree awarded in 2020 is as valid as any other year, and we will assess individual circumstances as necessary to ensure that talented students who want to join NTU are able to do so. When you receive your degree certificate or transcript, please submit these to us via upload to the My Documents section of the applicant portal.

    I’ve got an unconditional offer, is it still valid?

    Yes. If your offer is unconditional and you firmly accept the offer, then your place at NTU is confirmed.

    Does NTU offer online postgraduate courses?

    Yes, we have an exciting range of fully online postgraduate degrees including MBAs and LLMs. You can find out more on our distance learning page and keep in touch with us for updates about our online learning courses.

I am an international applicant to NTU

  • Information for international applicants and offer holders

    I’m an international student – if I can’t travel because of Covid-19 can I get a refund of my advanced payment?

    Yes. If you cannot join NTU because of Covid-19 you can get a full refund of your advanced payment. Just email our International Development Office (IDO) at international@ntu.ac.uk to explain your situation and request a refund.

    I’m an international student – if I’ve booked NTU accommodation or signed a contract with a private accommodation provider but can’t travel to the UK because of Covid-19 what shall I do? Can I get a refund of my deposit?

    If you’ve booked NTU accommodation please contact accommodation services at accomodation@ntu.ac.uk to explain the situation and they will advise you.

    If you’ve signed a private accommodation contract please contact your provider to explain the situation as your contract is with them. However, if you need legal advice or guidance, NTSU Information and Advice Service will help – you can contact them at sac@su.ntu.ac.uk.

    I’m an international student – can I defer my offer to a later start date? How?

    Yes. You can defer your offer to a later start date. You’d need to email international@ntu.ac.uk with your NTU ID, course title and new start date and we can advise whether this is possible.

    I’m an international student – if NTU can only offer online classes in September 2020, can I withdraw my application and get a refund of my advanced payment?

    Yes. You would be given the option of either deferring your course to a later start date or receiving a refund.

    IELTS tests are cancelled in my country – how can I meet the English language requirements of my offer?

    If you’ve taken an English language test and don’t meet the requirements of your offer, you could apply for our Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes (PEAP) course. We are now delivering this course online.

    We accept a number of English language tests in addition to IELTS, including the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition which can be taken online in your own home in many countries around the world.

    Check the alternative language tests accepted by the University on our website – if you still have questions about your qualification contact us.

    My course requires an ATAS certificate, when can I apply?

    The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) are not currently accepting any new ATAS applications.

    They will re-open the scheme as soon as possible and we strongly recommend that you keep checking the ATAS guidance on the Gov.uk website for any updates and for general information on how to apply and what you will need.
