Assessments

How will I be assessed to complete my course?

We don’t yet have the full information on how all our courses will be assessed – we’re still waiting for guidance from Government and Ofqual regarding assessment approaches for some of the awarding bodies.

If your course is a City & Guilds course, please see their statement below:
City & Guilds statement:

“Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be working hard with the Government and key stakeholders – including other awarding organisations, such as Ofqual, UCAS etc. – to make sure learners on our Technical Qualifications (who were due to take assessments this spring and summer) can still achieve the qualifications they need to progress to the next stage of their education and careers.

“We are exploring a range of options: however, this is an unprecedented situation which continues to escalate rapidly, so please bear with us. We will update you as soon as we have more information.”

We will update you as soon as we’re able to do so – do keep checking your NTU emails.

Do I need to continue studying?

Until we have the final decision from the awarding bodies, our staff will continue to work with you towards the completion of your course. If you have any concerns about your studies, please emails your Subject Administration team or by telephone on +44 (0)115 848 5299. They’re available from 9 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday.

How will I be assessed for my GCSE qualification?

Following the cancellation of all GCSE exams for schools and colleges, we’re working within the Ofqual guidance to provide the required centre assessment grade. Our Maths and English teachers will continue to provide classwork to our students for the remainder of this academic year, so that they can deliver a professional grading judgement for each student.

Work experience

What should I do if my work experience has been postponed or cancelled?

If your work experience has been postponed or cancelled, please email the Employability team to confirm the number of hours you’ve completed to date. You may also want to speak to your Programme Leader/ careers tutor for alternative study options or assessment arrangements if you’ve not completed the required number hours for your qualification (this includes T-levels).

What if I am classed as a key worker?

Students classed as “Key Workers” who continue to attend their work experience should inform Employability, whilst carefully following the Government’s safety guidelines. Visit https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus for a full breakdown of these instructions.
