Introduction:

If you're 15 - 17 years old, join our qualified Equine Technicians at the Brackenhurst Campus Equestrian Centre for the day. This course will allow you to work alongside the technicians, develop your skills and learn all about horses.

  • Learn what it's like to work with horses.
  • Spend the day at our Equestrian Centre - home to around 30 horses.

What you’ll study


Examples of activities you may get to experience:

  • Safe horse handling
  • Grooming
  • Feeding
  • Mucking out
  • Fecal egg counting / health monitoring
  • Riding our indoor mechanical horse.

There will also be plenty of opportunities throughout the day to chat to our technical team and learn about what it's like to work with horses.

Campus and facilities

You will be based at our Brackenhurst Campus in Southwell.

The Equestrian Centre is home to around 30 horses and has multiple facilities including indoor and outdoor riding arenas, various stabling and turnout paddocks and a mechanical horse simulator. It will provide real-life, hands-on opportunities to experience what working with horses on a daily basis might be like.

What you need to bring with you on the day

Please bring your own packed lunch and drinks. There are free water machines located nearby where you can refill your own drinks bottle.

What you need to wear

Sturdy footwear (i.e. no trainers or open toe shoes) and clothing suitable for wet weather.

If you have your own riding helmet you can bring it along or alternatively we can provide you with one to use.

Please note that you will need to ensure whilst working with our horses that:

  • no piercings are visible
  • long hair is tied back.

Entry requirements

Beginner, no previous experience is needed.

Entry requirements

  • You need to be aged between 15 and 17 years old
  • Have an interest in horses and their welfare
  • Have parental / legal guardian consent to attend. A consent form will be emailed after booking to complete and return prior to your arrival. If this is not returned you will not be allowed into the unit.
