Introduction:

On this course you’ll learn about Building Control Inspection and the regulations for commercial and residential buildings in England and Wales.

It will help you to apply this knowledge and carry out plan checking and site inspections.

What you’ll study

On the course you will learn about:

  • the Approved Inspector scheme/LABC
  • the use of British Standards
  • the case for quality
  • The golden thread
  • HRRBs and the JCA
  • common data environments
  • fire safety (post-Grenfell)
  • plan checking and site inspections
  • competent persons
  • professional and regulatory bodies
  • enforcement and dangerous structures.
  • have knowledge of the regulatory framework
  • be able to carry out plan checking and a site inspection
  • understand the process for issuing enforcement notices
  • know how to manage enforcement regarding dangerous structures
  • understand fire protection in high-risk residential buildings and the gateway process
  • be able to manage and communicate data effectively and make logical recommendations and devise innovative solutions.

How you’re taught

Teaching and learning will take place using a programme of lectures, workshops, short projects and group discussions.
