Introduction:

Please note: This course is delivered through the Reskill & Recover project, which is funded by the European Social Fund. Nottingham Trent University (NTU) is pleased to offer free (fully funded) places on this course to support employees of small and medium businesses that are based in Nottinghamshire or Derbyshire.

On this course you’ll learn how energy efficiency and overall sustainability can be achieved by exploring the strategies being applied to the design and construction of buildings.

It’s useful for anyone in the construction sector who’s interested in climate change, thermal comfort and energy management technologies.

What you’ll study

Teaching and learning will take place using a flexible programme of workshops, demonstrations, seminar groups and tutorials. It will enable you to increase your level of project engagement and productivity.

This course will be delivered via a combination of classroom sessions on the NTU City Campus and online sessions.

During this course you will:

  • be introduced to the use of energy in buildings
  • look at the UK and EU policy frameworks
  • develop an understanding of the principles of energy demand and efficiency
  • learn about Home Energy Management and Building Energy Management systems
  • study different energy assessments, from audits to performance certificates
  • formulate energy management measures that can be integrated into a building
  • link energy problems to design tasks and present them in a comprehensive way
  • look at the impact of behavioural change on energy usage.

As a result of completing the course, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • have a good understanding of energy use and greenhouse gas emissions
  • be able to show an awareness of a range of energy management strategies
  • be able to address the challenges of inefficient energy use.

What you’ll gain:

You will receive a CPD certificate upon successful completion of the course.

Should the assessment be successfully completed, the course provides 5 NTU undergraduate-level credits.
