Introduction:
Are you currently out of employment and looking to get your career back on track? Our fully-funded course in building pathology could be for you.
The programme has been designed to widen your understanding of low-carbon building practices and meet the demands of employers in the construction and built environment sector.
This course will allow you to:
- gain an understanding of the environmental challenges that currently face the construction industry and opportunities to tackle these.
- explore energy efficiency, technologies and strategies.
- learn about the tools and strategies that can be used to assess and improve building fabric.
- develop your understanding of retrofit technologies and assessment strategies.
- learn about the heritage and conservation of older buildings and the legislative framework that is in place to protect them in the UK.

Granting eligible learners across the Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, or Lincolnshire regions access to the technical training required to secure employment within the low-carbon construction sector.

What you’ll study
You will study a range of modules over 10 weeks including:
Sustainability in construction
You will develop an understanding of the environmental challenges, impacts, and opportunities for buildings.
Energy management
On this module, you will explore energy efficiency, technologies, and strategies.
Building pathology
This module will allow you to learn the tools and strategies for assessing and improving the building fabric.
Retro-fit technologies
Develop your knowledge and understanding of retro-fit technologies and suitable assessment strategies.
Heritage and conservation
You will learn practical methods in which you manage older buildings, ensuring that you're adhering to UK legislation.
How you’re taught
Teaching and learning will take place using a flexible programme of workshops, demonstrations, seminar groups and tutorials.
Campus and facilities
Entry requirements
To apply for this course you must:
- be currently unemployed;
- be over the age of 19;
- live in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, or Lincolnshire.
- Have a qualification in a built environment subject that is at least Level 3 with a minimum of 12 UCAS credits.
For most Skills Bootcamps, no previous knowledge in the subject is needed – you just need a good grasp of the English language and the willingness to learn new skills.
